Please say tehilim for Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel. His trial will be in Japan this Sunday evening and will continue for 3 consecutive days afterward.

I am not certain if DL visits Gottorah daily so I will give a brief explanation. DL has been following this case devotedly and is best qualified to answer your question.

In short, Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel is one of three young orthodox Israelis who, with trusting innocence, was duped into bringing drugs into Japan. Their innocence is obvious, but the Japanese courts are trying them for drug smuggling. Israel has been in negotiations with Japan for their release. If sentenced and held in Japan they face many years of imprisionment.

Okay, here i am again. Here is the story as well as i understand it. Some no-goodnik used 3 orthodox boys learning in a yeshiva in Israel to smuggle drugs into japan. Actually i think it was two no goodniks who were involved. The boys were told they are taking something to Japan- perhaps gems- they were not told they were taking drugs. The 'items' they were taking were well wrapped up and sealed and placed in a suitcase, and the boys had no idea what they were taking. As i understand it, they were told that after they drop off 'whatever it is' in Japan, they can go to visit the graves of some rightous people in Europe, and the 'no goodniks' would pay for their trip.

When they get to customs, all smiling and happy, feeling like they have nothing to hide, customs finds what is in their suitcase, and arrests them. They didn't know what hit them. Next thing they know, they are put in a 'holding cell' of sorts until their trial. No the trial was not the next day- more like a year or more for the first one to have his trial, and now finally after about 16 months, the next boy- Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel will have his trial tonight, and it will go on for 3 days after that. The 3rd boy is still awaiting his trial.
This 'holding cell' they are keeping these boys in are not quite a prison, and not at all as bad as a japanese prison, but more than terrible enough. If G-d forbid the trial doesn't decide the boy is innocent- which is obvious enough to everybody- but may be hard to convince a judge that he really didnt know what he was taking- then he will go to a japanese prison and have to suffer brutally harsh conditions for years.
I dont know how to save this as a draft, so in the next message i will give a link where you can read more about it.
